The England's team exit from the World Cup has led to a surge in holiday bookings travel companies have reported. As England crashed out of the World Cup Finals after been defeated 4-1 by Germany many online travel companies reported huge increases in traffic to their website.
Other companies reported a 15% increase in bookings from the previous week.
Food and drink served onboard budget airlines have been branded a rip-off lately after research found an average mark-up of 350% compared to supermarket prices.
The worst airline has been found to be Ryanair in travelsupermarket.com’s Airline Snacks Barometer.
“Airlines can get away with charging extortionate prices because once you’re onboard there’s nowhere else to go,” says Bob Atkinson, travel expert from travelsupermarket.com.
Typically family of four buying sandwiches, drinks and snacks face spending nearly £50 if they buy while onboard.
Instead take sandwiches onboard and buy your drinks after checking in. For example a Boots meal deal costs £3-£4 for sandwiches, a drink and a dessert so buy before boarding the plane.
Be careful however as some airlines such as Ryanair only allow one carry on bag so any food or drink purchased must fit in your carry on bag.
After stating that they would not compensate passengers stranded by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, Ryanair has backed down and said it would compensate passengers for the costs incurred whilst waiting to be flown home.
Resorts in France, Switzerland and Austria experienced some unseasonably mild weather over the Christmas period and in the run up to New Year, with rain falling especially at lower altitudes.

British Airways' cabin staff have voted to strike for 12-days over the Christmas period in a long-running dispute over job cuts and working practices. The strike is due to start on 22 December and will run till 2 January.
Other airlines such has Easyjet, looking to take advantage of the situation, have advised customers not to risk being left high and dry by strike action at BA and look at other airlines.
